Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and his wife, Chandra, announced the inaugural Jimmie Johnson Foundation Wellness Challenge on Friday at Daytona International Speedway.

The Foundation has partnered with Cool Breeze Cyclery to facilitate a series of four events encouraging individuals and corporations to prioritize health, wellness and teambuilding. In addition, the Foundation is encouraging fans to show their support of being physically active by joining TeamJJF and sharing their experiences via social media.

“I feel really strongly about the importance of staying physically fit and healthy,” said Johnson, co-founder of the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. “Prioritizing my health, wellness and setting athletic goals for myself has helped me both personally and professionally.  Chandra and I wanted to encourage people to be active so we created the Wellness Challenge, which will also serve to raise much needed funds for K-12 public education.”

The 2014 Wellness Challenge consists of four events based in the Charlotte, N.C., area:

•The Jimmie Johnson Foundation 5K held on Sunday, April 27  (Huntersville)
•The Lake Norman Excursion (a 5K run and multi distance bike ride) held on Saturday, July 12 (Mooresville)
•The Jimmie Johnson Foundation Cane Creek Sprint Triathlon held on Tuesday, Aug. 19 (Waxhaw)
•The Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon held on Sunday, Sept 7  (Davidson)

In conjunction with the launch of the Wellness Challenge, the Johnsons also encourage fans to connect with the Foundation through TeamJJF, an initiative started in 2013 to build a community of supporters for the Foundation.

TeamJJF will allow supporters to stay up to speed with the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and its events by participating, and interacting through Twitter (@TeamJJF), Instagram (@TeamJJF) and Facebook ( All fans are encouraged to use the hashtag #TeamJJF to share their interaction with the Foundation and their experiences in personal fitness.
