Kasey Kahne wins at Bristol

Kasey Kahne won the 53rd Annual Food City 500 Sunday from the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee.

Kyle Busch finished second, Brad Keselowski finished third, Kurt Busch fourth and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top-five after 500 laps at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

The victory was the 15th in Kahne’s career. The win was also Kahne’s first at the Bristol Motor Speedway and his eighth top-10 finish in 19 races at the short-track.

Kasey Kahne’s last short-track win came in 2005 at the Richmond International Raceway.

Jimmie Johnson entered the afternoon with the Sprint Cup Series points lead and was up near the front of the field most of the race, but he blew a tire late in the race, and he finished 22nd. Johnson sits third in the points after four races.

Jeff Gordon, Johnson’s teammate, also blew a tire in the race as he brought a caution on lap 391. Gordon also collected last week’s winner Matt Kenseth in the incident, and it ended both of their days. Gordon finished 34th and Matt Kenseth finished 35th.

With his fourth top-five finish of the season, Brad Keselowski is now the new Sprint Cup Series points leader. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits second in the standings, nine back of the No. 2 Penske Racing team.

Tempers flared between Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin after the race as Logano went over to Hamlin’s Toyota to confront him about an incident that occurred on lap 348 in which Hamlin bumped the No. 22 of Logano and he spun and backed his Ford into the outside wall. Both drivers were battling for second at the time.

Logano tried to lean into Hamlin’s car to get his point across, but Hamlin’s crew members pulled him away before he could and that escalated into a brief shoving match between members of Hamlin’s and Logano’s crews.

The race consisted of 17 lead changes among 10 drivers and there were 10 cautions for 66 laps.

Sunday’s race took 2 hours and 53 minutes to complete.

The Sprint Cup Series now shifts back to the west as they will race at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California next weekend.
